History

Beginning

Evgeny Bagrationovich Vakhtangov

In 1904, a working theater group appeared in Grozny. Evgeni Vakhtangov , who at that time worked in the Vladikavkaz musical and drama circle, staged a number of performances in the Grozny circle based on plays by Russian and foreign classics. The first directorial work of Vakhtangov was the play "Sick People" (based on the play "Holiday of Reconciliation" by Gerhard Hauptmap ). In August 1909, the Vladikavkaz circle presented the performance “Zinochka” to the court of the Grozny public , in which Vakhtangov himself played the role of a student of Magnitsky [2] .

In 1910, Vakhtangov moved to Grozny. The operetta of the local author M. Popov, " Uncle Vanya " Anton Chekhov and others were staged on the stage of the theater club under his leadership. The performances were held on a cycle track (later Kirov Park) [2] .

In the 1920s, according to the project of architect A. Larionov, they began to build a complex that included a school, a theater, and a congress hall. The theater was built on the foundation laid in 1914 of the “apartment building” of the local oil industrialist Schirtladze on Mikhailovskaya Street (now Saypuddin Lorsanov Street). In 1928, the opening of the theater. The first production, performed on January 12, 1929 on the stage of the theater, was Romashev’s play “The End of Krivorymsk” [3] [4] .

In 1938, a special resolution of the Council of People 's Commissars of the Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic appeared on the opening of the Russian Drama Theater. In November 1938, viewers saw the first, after its official recognition, work of the collective - a performance based on the play by Nikolai Pogodin, " A Man with a Gun " [4] .

At different times, the Russian theater was directed by directors M. Trofimovsky, I. Gurevich, V. Ignatov, V. Belov, E. Krasnitsky, A. Isaev, V. Gubin, N. Decik. In 1941, when it was 100 years since the death of M. Yu. Lermontov , the theater was named after him [4] .

Before the restoration of the autonomy of Chechen-Ingushetia in 1957, the theater had the status of a regional drama theater [5] .

“ Ivanov ” and “ Uncle Vanya ” by Anton Chekhov , “ Crime and Punishment ” by Fyodor Dostoevsky , “ Ordinary History ” (a staging by V. Rozov based on the novel by Ivan Goncharov ), “Irkutsk Story” by Alexei Arbuzov , “Goodnight” were staged on the stage of the theater A. Rozova, “A Real Man” (a staging by T. London based on the novel by Boris Polevoy “ A Tale of a Real Man ”), “ Hamlet ” by William Shakespeare , “ Maria Tudor ” by Victor Hugo , “ At the Bottom ” of Maxim Gorky , “ Cunning and Love ” Friedrich Schiller , “ Dowry ”, “ It’s quite simple for every sage oty ”,“ Wolves and Sheeps ”by Alexander Ostrovsky ,“ Bedbug ”by Vladimir Mayakovsky ,“ Masquerade ”by Mikhail Lermontov ,“ Tragedy of Man ”by Imre Madach and many others [6] .

World War II

During the years of World War II, concert brigades of the Grozny Russian Theater went to the front. Artists raised money for the construction of aircraft. For fundraising, the theater was awarded the gratitude of the Supreme Commander . From 1942 to 1944 the theater was evacuated to Eastern Siberia [3] .

1950-1980s

From 1950 to 1955, before each season, the troupe of the theater was almost completely updated. For the season 1950-1951, 13 premieres took place. Naturally, at such a speed of preparing the performances, their quality inevitably suffered.

 Grozny residents do not like hack-work, unprincipled, vulgar concoction, which, in the guise of art, some “figures” of art have tried to present in the past as art

- wrote the newspaper " Grozny Worker " in October 1950 [5] .

In 1955, the director A. Ridal directed the play by Viktor Rozov “Good morning!”. One of the main roles, Andrei Averin, was played by Leonid Broneva . The newspaper "Grozny Worker" wrote:

 The great creative success of the young artist L. Bronevoy is the image of the central hero of the play Andrei Averin. Warmly, with good soft humor, the artist boldly and interestingly sculpts a charming, surprisingly vital, at the same time complex and contradictory character of his hero [5] .

Leonid Bronevoy worked in the theater for only one season. He played the role of Meresyev in the play “The Real Man” (a staging by T. London based on the novel by Boris Polevoy “ The Tale of a Real Man ”), one of the roles in the play “ The Dog in the Hay ”. He also acted as a director, staging together with E. Krasnitsky a children's play- vaudeville “Dimka-invisible” [5] .

In 1957, the premiere of the play "Terrible Days", telling about the civil war in Chechnya , took place. Then the Irkutsk Story by A. Arbuzov and The Unequal Battle by V. Rozov were staged [5] .

The theater presented the performances “Hamlet” (starring Honored Artist of the Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic and the RSFSR G. Gladkikh ) and “ Anna Karenina ” (starring V. Pluzhnikov) to the audience. The director of both productions was N. Decik, and the artist was E. Valentinov [5] .

In 1962, both republican drama theaters, national and Russian, performed on the stage of the Moscow Kremlin Theater. The Chechen theater showed the Moscow audience the play “ Goryanka ” based on the play by Rasul Gamzatov . Lermontovites presented the work “Believe in Man” by N. Muzayev. This performance was shown on Moscow television. The Minister of Culture of the RSFSR A. I. Popov arranged a reception in honor of the collectives of both theaters [5] .

The first work of national drama, which was staged by the Lermontov Theater was the play "Believe in Man" by N. Muzayev. Subsequently, based on plays by Chechen and Ingush authors, “I Will Not Be Alone” by A. Malsagov, “We Will Return, Nani!” And “Towards the Jurassic Period” by Akhmet Bokov [5] .

Many directors of the Russian Theater, such as N. Decik and V. Weinstein, have staged performances both in the Lermontov Theater and in the Nuradilov Theater. In turn, both Ruslan Hakishev and Mimalt Soltsaev performed a number of productions on the stage of the Lermontov Theater [5] .

During the All-Union Festival of Hungarian Drama in 1979, about two hundred theaters across the country staged performances based on plays by Hungarian authors. The Lermontov Theater staged a play by Imre Madach “The Tragedy of Man”. The work of the director, chief director of the theater, Honored Art Worker of Chechen-Ingushetia, Lenin Komsomol Prize Laureate Mimalt Soltsaev was awarded a diploma and a prize, a diploma for performing art was awarded to People's Artist of the RSFSR V.N. Ogloblin [5] .

The period from the 1990s to the present

As a result of political instability and two wars that took place on the territory of the Chechen Republic , the theater actually ceased to exist. The theater building was destroyed, and most of the artists left the republic. After an almost 15-year hiatus, the Lermontov Theater resumed its work. On April 9, 2005, the 67th theatrical season was opened with the premiere of the play “ What you follow , you will find ” based on the trilogy of Alexander Ostrovsky [6] .

On June 5, 2005, within the framework of the Days of Culture of the Chechen Republic, in Moscow , the Central House of Actors hosted the evening “There was such a theater”, dedicated to the Lermontov Theater. An excerpt from the play "What you follow, you will find." Chechen leadership presented honorary titles and letters of thanks to former and current theater workers. The theater was awarded the Lermontov Medal. The evening ended already under a different name: “There was such a theater. There is such a theater ” [6] .

In September 2005, the theater was invited to Novocherkassk at the Compliment festival of Russian theaters in southern Russia . The play “What you follow, you will find” was very well received by the audience and criticism . The team won the festival Grand Prix in two categories:

  • for the revival of the theater;
  • for the best scenography and decoration of the play [6] .

In the same year, the Lermontov Theater took part in the comedy festival "Smile of Friends" in Nalchik [6] .

Together with the UNICEF Children's Fund , a children's play “I do not want to be Sarmik” was prepared ( Chech. Sarmik is a dragon) based on the script by Musa Akhmadov , whose charity shows were held in late 2005 - early 2006 [6] .

In June 2006, the main director of the theater was Mimalt Soltsaev . He remained in this position until his death in 2013 [6] .

In September 2007, the theater took part in the Second International Compliment Festival in Novocherkassk and was awarded with diplomas in five categories:

  • festival participant diploma;
  • diploma for dedication to theatrical work;
  • diploma to the author for the most passionate and relevant work (Mimalt Soltsaev);
  • diploma for the best acting duet (the image of General Ermolov created by the People's Artist of the Chechen Republic Ali Marisultanov );
  • diploma for the best acting duet (the image of Beybulat Taimiev created by People’s Artist of the Chechen Republic Bai-Ali Vakhidov ) [6] .

In the post-war period, the theater did not have its own concert hall , so the troupe had to rehearse in the Grozny culture center "Office equipment". In June 2012, a new theater building was opened. The auditorium of the theater is designed for 500 seats. Stage equipment meets modern world standards: the orchestra pit can rise and fall, the stage is designed so that the farthest spectator's seat is only 17 meters from the stage. The theater has a rehearsal room with 100 seats, modern dressing rooms and a complex of production workshops. In front of the building is a monument to Mikhail Lermontov [1] [7] .
