Biography
Jean Pierre Gépin was born in Angers in 1779 . He received a doctorate in medicine, was engaged in healing in his city. Then he taught medicine and pharmacy at a school in Angers, and for several years was the director of this school.
In 1830, he published the first volume of a monograph of the flora of the Department of Maine and Loire , devoted to flowering plants. Subsequently, this volume was several times reworked and reprinted, while the second volume, which described secretive plants, was never completed and printed.
Jean Pierre Guepin died on February 11, 1858 in Angers at the age of 79.
The main herbarium of J.P. Gepin was granted by his will to the city of Angers. It is currently split between the University of Caen (CN) and the Paris Museum of Natural History (PC).
