Ukrainian Diocese of the AAC

The Ukrainian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church (in Armenian Հայ Առաքելական եկեղեցու Ուկրաինական թեմ ) is the diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Ukraine , with its center in the city of Lviv .

History

The Armenian Diocese in Lviv was founded in 1364 by decree of the Catholicos of All Armenians Mesrop I. Three years later, he was approved by the decree of the Polish king Casimir the Great . Thus, the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Lviv (consecrated in 1363) became the cathedral and diocesan center of all Armenians in Russia, Wallachia and Moldova [1] .

After the Armenian church in Ukraine ceased to exist in the 20-30s of the XX century and all existing churches were closed, the diocese also ceased to exist and exist [2] .

The Ukrainian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church was formed by the decree of the Catholicos of All Armenians Vazgen I in September 1991, being separated from the New Nakhichevan Diocese . The center of the diocese was the city of Lviv [3] .

On November 28, 1991, the diocese was officially renewed and registered [1] .

On January 13, 1997, according to the kontakol of the Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin I, the Ukrainian diocese received canonical recognition, and Bishop Natan (Hovhannisyan) was appointed its head [3] .

On June 25, 2001, while staying in Lviv, the Pope John Paul II visited the Armenian temple.

Communities which now operate in Lviv , Kiev , Odessa , Kharkov , Donetsk , Dnieper , as well as in some cities of Crimea .

  • Tiran (Kureghyan) (October 5, 2000 - May 15, 2001) did not accept the appointment
