Waigang, Horst

Horst Weigang ( German: Horst Weigang ; born September 30, 1940 in Bielawa , Silesia ) - German footballer, goalkeeper. He played in the Oberlig of the GDR for Lokomotiv Leipzig and Rot-Weiss Erfurt . He played 12 matches for the national team of the GDR .

Biography

Horst Weigang began his football career in 1951 with the team at the Leipzig Medical Center, where he played before joining Lokomotiv Leipzig in 1954. In addition to playing football, he received a specialty as a locksmith at Deutsche Reichsbahn . The first three years of his career, he played in Lokomotiv. He spent the 1961/62 season at Roth-Weiss Erfurt before returning to Leipzig . There he played until 1967, including during the reorganization of the club. In 1965, he was recognized as the footballer of the year in the GDR . In 1967, he again moved to Erfurt , where until 1973 he played for Roth-Weiss. In total, he played 234 matches in the championship for the clubs of Erfurt and Leipzig [1] . In the 1971/72 season, he played 10 matches in the second league of the GDR for Rot-Weiss. As part of Lokomotiv Leipzig, he played 16 matches in European competitions.

Waigang's international career began in March 1958 in the youth team. With her, he played a total of nine matches. After six matches for the youth team and one match in East Germany, he made his debut in the first team on November 21, 1962 in Berlin . Czechoslovakia was an opponent, the GDR won with a score of 2: 1. Until 1967, he played a total of 12 matches for the GDR national team [2] . His main achievement was a bronze medal with a joint German team at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo . He played in the preliminary round match against Mexico instead of the first goalkeeper Jürgen Heins .

After the end of his playing career, Horst Weigang worked at the Roth-Weiss Erfurt coaching staff. He later coached Weimar, Eisenach, Arnstadt (1980/81), Wacker Gotha, and Post Erfurt. In addition, Horst Weigang taught civil law and worked at Erfurt's former chemical plant in the Rudisleben district.

His daughter, Birte Vaigang , was a successful swimmer and won a gold medal at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul in the combined 4 × 100 m relay . His son Sven Weigang was also a goalkeeper and played for the Stahl Riesa in the Oberlig of the GDR and for the Blau-Weiss 1890 in the Second Bundesliga .

Since 2000, Horst and Sven Waigangi have been working at the Kleinmachnova football school.
