Nikolai Nikolaevich Motonis (Madonis;? —1787) is a Russian writer.

A graduate of the Kiev Academy , in 1747 he went abroad and studied in Leipzig. Upon returning to Russia, he was a teacher at the Academic Gymnasium in St. Petersburg, later - a member of the Academy of Sciences.
Motonis participated in Miller’s “Monthly Compositions” and in “ Hardworking Bee ” in 1759. In 1762 he was involved in the Commission of the new Code with the responsibility of correcting corrections, “when this Code will be printed.” In 1764 he was awarded the rank of collegiate assessor and on May 4, 1764 he was appointed to the post of secretary of the Senate Heraldry Office .
Contemporaries highly appreciated the linguistic abilities of Motonis. A. P. Sumarokov in his work “On Spelling” named him among the most delicate stylists.
