Biography
Asle Strann was born on September 29, 1953 in Oslo . He began to actively engage in sledding from a young age, was trained in the capital's sports club "Akorefenig." He made his international debut in 1975, at the World Championships in Hammarstrand, Sweden, together with his partner Helge Svensen, he closed the top ten. A year later, they won a silver medal at the European Championships in Hammarstrand, and thanks to a series of successful performances, they won the right to defend the country's honor at the Winter Olympic Games in Innsbruck - they took the thirteenth place in the men's doubles.
After the Olympics, Strann remained in the main squad of the national team and continued to travel to major international tournaments. So, in 1977, he attended the World Championships in the Austrian Igls, finished nineteenth among singles and twelfth among twos. Since his original partner Svensen had already completed his career by that time, Strand decided to concentrate on single sleighs and played exclusively in this discipline in all subsequent championships. At the 1978 world championship in Imst, he finished seventeenth, a year later showed the thirteenth result at the world championships in German Königssee and the twenty-first at the European championships in Oberhof. I tried to qualify for the 1980 Olympic Games in Lake Placid, but Norway did not receive a quota in luge, and no one from that country played there.
At the 1981 World Championships in Hammarstrand, Strann was the twenty-third; next season he went to the European Championships in Winterberg, where he took twenty-first place. According to the results of the 1983/1984 season, he still managed to qualify for the Olympic Games in Sarajevo - after four races he settled down in the twenty-second position of the men's single event. Subsequently, he no longer fell into the main team of the national team, although for many years he regularly took part in various competitions on a local scale. For example, in 1996, unexpectedly for everyone, he became the champion of Norway in single sleighs (at that time he was already 42 years old).
In 2000, Asle Strann participated in the filming of a documentary about sports and on the track in Tromsø commune wrecked during one of the races. A few days later in the hospital he died from his injuries.
