Grandfather Con San John once moved to Taiwan from South Korea , while retaining the citizenship of the Republic of China . Her father and mother grew up in Chuncheon , while retaining the citizenship of the Republic of China. Kun Xiangzhen herself also had Taiwanese citizenship by birth, but when she qualified for the junior short track world championships in 2010, it turned out that she could not speak from the Republic of Korea due to her lack of citizenship. Thanks to a revised law that permitted special dual citizenship in special cases, the Korean Ministry of Justice granted her South Korean citizenship in December 2011
In 2014, at the Olympic Games in Sochi, Con San John won the gold medal in the relay.
