In Culture

In GBS since 1964. Seedlings grown from seeds obtained from Newcastle ( UK ) died in the fourth year of life. Currently, the nursery has 17 specimens brought from the Carpathians from Mount Goverla in 1968 and 1972. The height of the bushes is 0.1-0.3 m. The growth of shoots occurs from early May to mid-July. Carpathian plants tolerate Moscow conditions quite well, evidence of this is their flowering from the third decade of May to early June. Fruit setting was not observed. Rhododendron overwinter in the snow. Shoots are lignified 100%. Winter hardiness I [4] .

According to the American Rhododendron Society , Carpathian rhododendron can withstand temperature drops of −23 ° C [5] .
