Luidia [1] ( Latin: Luidia ) is a genus of starfish from the order of paxilloniferous starfish . It stands out in the monotypic family Luidiidae [2] . One of the most primitive modern starfish.

Description
The rays are long and flexible, bordered by numerous needles, their number in different species varies from 5 to 11. The color is usually soft grayish or greenish brown. Ambulacral legs without suction cups. Papules have the appearance of branching outgrowths, and not simple protrusions of the skin, like all other starfish.
Habitat and habitat
They live in shallow depths of warm and tropical seas. The sandy bottom is inhabited, on which they crawl not only along its surface, but also buried in the thickness of the sand.
Power
They feed mainly on ophiuras and sea urchins , which are swallowed whole. In the stomachs of Luidia, dozens of ophiur were often found.
