Lekenik ( Croatian. Lekenik ) is a community with a center in the village of the same name in the central part of Croatia , in the Sisak-Moslavin County . The population of the community is 6032 people ( 2011 ), the population of the village is 1897 people [1] . In addition to the administrative center, the community includes 17 more villages.

According to the 2011 census, Croats made up 97.55% of the population [2] .
Through the village of Lekenik passes the highway D30 Petrigna - Velika Gorica . In the village there is a railway station on the line Zagreb - Sisak .
Most of the community is forested. Lekenik is popular with lovers of nature tourism [3] .
History
The first mention of Lekenik dates back to 1217. The community is located on the plain of Turopol , in the interfluve of Kupa and Odra, about 10 km northwest of the city of Sisak . Citizens of Lekenik belonged to the "Noble community of Turopolje" celebrated in the Middle Ages and New time.
At the end of the 16th century, not far from Old Lekenik, the branch of the Earl clan Erdody (Erdody, Erdődy) settled, who fled from the Ottoman yoke. Their village began to be called Erdodsky Lekenik (Erdodski Lekenik, Erdődski Lekenik). In 1953, Erdoдsky Lekenik was administratively attached to Old Lekenik.
The parish church of the community, the Church of the Ascension of the Virgin Mary built in 1751, is located not in Lekenik itself, but in the neighboring village of Peschenitsa.
The shooting of the American film The Violinist on the Roof was taking place in Lekenik. Lekenik portrayed the Ukrainian village of Anatevka in the film [4] .
