Biography
Born in , Illinois . After receiving a cello education in Boston , Massachusetts , Brann, as a child prodigy, played in the Boston Symphony Orchestra , but soon decided to become a rock guitarist, joining Iron Butterfly at the age of 16. He played with Ron Bushes , Doug Ingle and Lee Dorman from 1967 to 1969 [3] . The first album recorded by this lineup, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, sold 30 million copies, was also awarded the first platinum prize, and according to Billboard magazine, it remained on the charts for almost three years. Brann is also credited with co-authoring the composition “Termination”, which he wrote with Dorman, and that was indicated in the album [4] .
The album was accompanied by a mini-biography written when he was 17 years old; it tells about the ambitions that he had, his preferences in clothing and food, and the ease with which rock and roll actors could have sexual contact (usually with fans ). It says: “Although music has always been his great love, Eric was involved in the theater before joining Butterfly, his acting skills brought him the main role in the local play ... Eric hopes to return to the acting field one day, but now, however, he only cares Iron Butterfly, turtlenecks , bananas, and weaker sex. ”
In 1970, Branne, along with former Iron Butterfly member Darrell Deloach, formed the new Flintwhistle, which lasted less than a year. Between 1972 and 1973, Brann mostly worked in the studio. In 1973, he recorded two demos on MCA Records, which can be found in bootlegs posted on the Internet. The most famous songs from these demos are early versions of Hard Miseree, Am I Down, and Scorching Beauty. In 1974, he reunited with Ron Bushes to create the new Iron Butterfly line-up. The composition of the 1975 album Scorching Beauty primarily consisted of Brann on guitar and vocals, Bushes on drums, Philip Taylor Kramer on bass and Howard Reitzes on keyboards. At the end of the same year, the team released the album Sun and Steel along with Bill DeMartinez, who at that time replaced Reitzes' keyboards. None of the albums sold well, and the group soon split up (around the summer of 1977 and was then restored to a different composition).
Brann subsequently sometimes reunited at concerts with Iron Butterfly, and worked on his debut solo album, until his death from a heart attack in 2003. Death occurred as a result of complications caused by a birth defect, which Brann struggled with for many years [5] [6] .
