Biography

Kiron Kher was born and raised in Chandigarh , Punjab , India , where she graduated from elementary school and college. Family members engaged in sports and art . Her mother, Dildjit Kaur, took an active part in sports and also played on the theater stage. At school, Kiron and her sister , were avid badminton players . Their brother Amandip Singh, who died in 2003, was an artist .

Kieron Kher made her film debut in 1983, starring the Panjabi film Aasra Pyar Da, and received rave reviews from critics for her role. Soon she took a break from the cinema in connection with the divorce and upbringing of her son. Meanwhile, she continued to work as a costume designer for the films of her future second husband, actor Anupam Khera , and also starred with him in the film Peston in 1988.

Her return to acting took place in the theater in the play directed by based on the play “Saalgirah” by playwright . Then the actress took part in three television shows: “Purushkshetra” on the TV channel “ Zee TV ”, “Kiron Kher today” and “Jagte Raho with Kiron Kher”.

In 1996, the actress returned to her film career and starred in the director of “parallel cinema” (serious realistic cinema, arthouse ) Shyama Benegal in the film in the language of Urdu , for the role in which she was awarded the Special Jury Prize of the National Film Prize in 1997 year. In the same year, the film was shown at the XX Moscow Film Festival in Russia and nominated for the main prize "Golden George".

In 2000, the Bengali film was produced by the film director (1999), produced by Anupam Kher, and Kiron Kher performed the main role, receiving the approval of critics and the National Film Award for Best Actress .

In 2002, Kiron Kher co-starred with director Sanjay Leela Bhansali in the film “Devdas” along with Shah Rukh Khan , Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan , Madhuri Dikshit and was nominated for a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress .

In 2003, Kiron Kher starred in the Indo-Pakistani film in the Punjabi language " Silent Waters ", which shows the plight of a woman abducted during the partition of India : her heroine not only refused to commit suicide at the request of the family, but married her kidnapper, but after his death, she taught the Qur'an to local children. The film shows a change in the character of the heroine when her son is engaged in Islamic extremism during the rule of Zia-ul-Haq and the process of Islamization of Pakistan . At the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland, the film was awarded the Golden Leopard Prize, and Kiron Kher was awarded the Bronze Leopard Prize for Best Actress, as well as prizes at international film festivals in Karachi in Pakistan, in Cape Town in South Africa , in Argentina , and in 2004, awards at .

Kiron's first husband was an actor and businessman Gautam Berry. In 1981, the couple had a son, Sikander Kher, who also became an actor in Bollywood. In 1985, Kiron divorced her first husband and married for the second time to the actor Anupam Khera . They met back in 1974, but then Anupam Kher went to Delhi and worked at the , while Kiron went to work in the theater in Bombay , where she married Gautama Berry. Subsequently, Kiron and Anupam Kher met again while working together in the theater and were married in 1985.

In 2003, the actress changed her name from “Kiron” to “Kirron” due to her belief in numerology .

Kiron Kher loves and collects traditional national clothes and jewelry. In most films, the actress acts in her own sarees and jewelery.

Career Policy

Kiron Kher became a supporter of Narendra Modi long before he was elected prime minister. In 2009, Kiron Kher officially became a member of the Indian People’s Party [3] . The party nominated her as a candidate for the Lok Sabha from Chandigarh in the May 2014 elections, which Kiron won by gaining 191 362 votes [4] .
