Biography

He was born on December 31, 1911 in Otlitsa near Aidovschina. Father worked at the railway station. He spent his childhood in Goritsa, but his family was forced to leave for Chrnuch near Ljubljana after the Italians began persecuting the Italians. There, Janez Jr. met with the ideologists of socialism. In 1934 he joined the labor movement, creating trade union organizations in the cultural societies Freedom and Reciprocity. Since 1936, a member of the Communist Party of Ukraine (adopted as a member of "Automotive Assembly"). In 1938 he was arrested and sent to Ivanitsa prison.

After the occupation of the country, Janez went underground, hiding from the Gestapo, but provided assistance to the partisans. In July 1941, he entered the 1st Rashitsa partisan company, and after two months of fighting against the Germans, he led the Moravian company. Especially his company distinguished itself in a skirmish with the Germans in Savinsky Hrida near Moravšić: 20 people repelled the attack of 700 Germans, and Janez personally killed the officer who commanded the German detachment. After that, he began preparing ambushes in the territory of occupied Slovenia and organizing sabotage.

In early October 1941, Janez with his company on the right bank of the Sava got involved in a series of fights with Italians. On October 29, 1941, near the Shuice, they were attacked by the Italian army. Janez was mortally wounded by a shot in the head, but his detachment, seeing the death of the commander, not only did not lose morale, but also delivered an aggressive retaliatory strike, after which the Italians fled.

The whole family of Janez participated in the war (his three brothers were awarded the Partisan Memory medal). November 27, 1953 he was posthumously awarded the title of People's Hero of Yugoslavia.
