Early years and education
Matthew Williamson was born on October 23, 1971 in Manchester , United Kingdom. Until the age of 17, he studied at Loreto College ( English Loreto College ), Manchester. Then he moved to London to continue his studies at the St. Martin Central College of Art and Design , which he graduated in 1994 with a bachelor's degree. Specialty "Textiles" [2] .
Career
After graduating from college, Williamson worked for two years at Monsoon (branded stores specializing in clothing with ethnic motifs), where, in his own words, he learned a lot from his work in a large company and frequent trips to India [2] .
The first success Williamson brought silk scarves made of Indian silk, which he successfully presented to the British Vogue [3] .
In 1997, Matthew Williamson founded his own fashion house. In the same year at the London Fashion Week, he presented his first collection “Electric Angels” ( Eng. Electric Angels ) [4] . Kate Moss , Helena Christensen and Jade Jagger took part in the show [5] .
The collections of the designer were also shown at the Fashion Week in New York in 2002 [6] .
In 2004, Williamson opened his own shop (Bruton Street 28, Mayfair , London [7] .
In 2005, he released his own line of perfumes, in 2006 he was appointed creative director of the Italian fashion house Emilio Pucci . In 2007, the show of the Williamson collection was included in the video for the song Prince Chelsea Rodgers , the album Planet Earth.
In 2007, a retrospective exhibition of his works was held in the London Design Museum: “Matthew Williamson - 10 years in fashion” [8] .
In 2008, Williamson was named "Red Carpet Designer" [9] . He was also nominated three times for the designer of the year [10] .
In September 2008, Matthew Williamson returned to London to concentrate fully on the development of his own brand [11] .
In October 2010, it was announced that Williamson had signed a licensing agreement with MBFG under which a new line was created - Muza Matthew Williamson [12]
Dresses from Williamson are celebrities, including Madonna , Sarah Jessica Parker , Gwyneth Paltrow , Kirsten Dunst and Nicole Kidman [5] .
