Bembix albofasciata

Bembix albofasciata (lat.) Is a species of sand wasps of the genus Bembix from the subfamily Bembicinae ( Crabronidae ). Found in South Africa : Zimbabwe , South Africa . Medium-sized wasp: body length about 2 cm. The body is stocky, black with a developed yellow pattern. Labrum stretched forward like a beak. Associated with plants Asteraceae ( Senecio pterophorus DC); Apiaceae ( Foeniculum vulgare Mill.); Fabaceae ( Papilionoideae , Calpurnia intrusa (R. Br. In WT Aiton) E. Mey and lucerne); and Apocynaceae (formerly Asclepiadaceae , determined by pollen on wasps). Flies from 10 families were noted as victims: Tabanidae , Asilidae , Muscidae , Stratiomyidae , Conopidae , Calliphoridae , Mydidae , Tachinidae , Bombyliidae , and Syrphidae . The species was first described in 1873 by the English entomologist Frederic Smith ( Frederic Smith , 1805–1879) based on materials from South Africa [1] [2] [3] [4] .
