Biography
Yevgeny Menshutin was born on November 18, 1922 in Moscow . He graduated from ten classes of school, worked in the flying club. In 1941, Menshutin was called up to serve in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1942 he graduated from the Chernigov military aviation school of pilots. Since March 1943 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He participated in the Battle of Kursk and the Battle of the Dnieper , was seriously wounded [1] .
By the end of the war, Guards Lieutenant Yevgeny Menshutin commanded the link of the 152th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment of the 12th Guards Fighter Aviation Division of the 1st Guards Ground Attack Aviation Corps of the 2nd Air Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front . By that time, he had made 280 combat sorties, took part in 51 air combat, shooting down 13 enemy airplanes personally and another 1 in the group [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated June 27, 1945, Guards Lt. Evgeny Menshutin was awarded the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star ” , number 7976 [1] .
After the war, Menshutin continued to serve in the Soviet Army. He graduated from the Air Force Academy . In 1959, with the rank of lieutenant colonel, Menshutin was dismissed. He lived and worked in Moscow , was actively engaged in social activities. He died on January 5, 1978, was buried at the Khimki cemetery of Moscow [1] .
He was also awarded two Orders of the Red Banner , Orders of Alexander Nevsky , World War 1 degree and the Red Star , along with a number of medals [1] .
