Biography
Fedor Melnikov was born on March 27, 1919 in the village of Leskovo (now the Kalacheevsky district of the Voronezh region ). He graduated from seven classes of the school, after which he worked first at the collective farm , then at the general farm. In 1939, Melnikov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since June 1941 - on the fronts of World War II. In 1943 he graduated from junior lieutenant courses [1] .
By September 1943, Senior Lieutenant Fyodor Melnikov commanded the 7th Rifle Company of the 1035th Rifle Regiment of the 280th Rifle Division of the 60th Army of the Central Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper . On September 29-30, 1943, Melnikov’s company successfully crossed the Dnieper in the Rotichi village of the Chernobyl district of the Kiev region of the Ukrainian SSR and took an active part in the battles for capturing and holding the bridgehead on its western coast, repelling a large number of German counterattacks and capturing the dominant height. In those battles, Melnikov was injured, but continued to fight [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 17, 1943, for “exemplary performance of the command missions at the front of the battle against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown”, Senior Lieutenant Fedor Melnikov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Medal Star ” under number 1885 [1] .
April 9, 1944 Melnikov died in battle in the Ternopil region of the Ukrainian SSR . He was buried in the village of Grabek, Monastyrisi district [1] .
He was also awarded the Orders of the Red Banner and the Red Star [1] .
In honor of Melnikov named street and a recreation center in his native village [1] .
