Peruvian viscacha [1] , or northern viscacha [2] ( lat. Lagidium viscacia ) is a species of rodent from the family of chinchillas ( Chinchillidae ).

Body length 30–45 cm. Weight from 900 to 1600 g.
This rodent has a wide range of distribution, which overlaps with conservation areas and suggests significant numbers. Lives in central and southern Peru and northern Chile, and possibly in other parts of Bolivia , around Lake Titicaca . The distribution range in height is from 300 meters (on the ocean) to 5,000 meters above sea level. He loves rocky terrain; Shelter picks in the gorges.
The gestation period is 140 days, and the usual size of the offspring is one cub. Lactation takes about eight weeks. In Peru, mating takes place from October to November.
