The Bernardine Gate ( Polish. Brama Bernardyńska ) is one of the three currently existing Wawel Gate, Krakow , Poland . They are located on the southern side of the Wawel fortifications near the Sandomierz Tower . The gates are entered in the register of protected monuments of the Małopolska province .

Location on the Wawel map
The gate was built during World War II , when Wawel was the residence of Governor-General Hans Frank . Earlier, on the site of the modern gate, there were entrance gates with a drawbridge, which were built in 1849-1854 by the Austrian authorities as part of the construction of the Krakow fortress.
