Notes
- ↑ 1 2 3 4 Cape Gata is located in the Akrotiri area, which is the UK entry zone on the island of Cyprus, and therefore is not technically part of the European Union. Also see Extreme Points of Cyprus .
- ↑ Rizokarpaso / Dipkarpaz, in Northern Cyprus, is a de jure eastern point. Although the whole of Cyprus joined the European Union on May 1, 2004, EU law only applies to the southern part of the island, which remained under the effective control of the Republic of Cyprus after the Turkish invasion in 1974. EU legislation is suspended in Northern Cyprus. Therefore, de facto is not part of the EU, making Cape Greco, Ayia Napa de facto eastern point. Cyprus is generally considered to be Asia, not Europe in relation to physical geography, although it is considered culturally European.
- ↑ Reunion is a French overseas department and as such is fully part of France and the EU
