Food Database (USDA)

USDA National Nutrient Database (USDA) is a national food database created by the US Department of Agriculture that contains data on the composition and energy value of food. [1] The content of the database on the site can be searched and downloaded by the user. The latest version for October 2013 - SR26 contains 8463 products.

Contents

The database contains several sections: description of food, nutritional value, weight and size, notes, data sources. Only 25 food groups. Measured: nutritional value , lipids , moisture , carbohydrates , energy, minerals , ascorbic acid , thiamine , certain vitamins , protein , folic acid , choline , fatty acids , cholesterol , amino acids , weight and size, and more.

Technical Features of the Base

The data in the database are compiled from various sources - published and unpublished. The first are scientific literary sources. The second is taken directly from industrial food manufacturers, other government agencies, and studies under the contract of the USDA Agricultural Research Service. The contracts are carried out under the National Food and Nutrition Analysis Program, in cooperation with the National Cancer Institute and other departments of the National Institute of Health , the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention , and the Food and Drug Administration . Data from industry manufacturers carries the nutritional value of the product at the time it was sent to the USDA Nutrition Data Lab.
