Biography
Born in Egypt. He began his directorial career in Italy, working with Alessandro Blazetti since 1928, who, among other things, assisted on the set of the film “Mother Earth” (1931) and soon moved on to independent productions. After several documentary films, Alessandrini made his feature film debut, having shot the first Italian musical “ Personal Secretary ” in 1931 [5] .
Alessandrini was one of the first directors of the so-called “ Cinema of white phones ” (films from the life of the aristocracy) and one of the most prominent representatives of the official cinematography of the Mussolini era. In the late 30s - early 40s he made films of fascist military propaganda ("Cavalry", 1936; "Pilot Luciano Serra", 1938; "We are alive", 1942; "Jarabub"; 1942; "Farewell, Kira! , 1942). For the films Pilot Luciano Serra and Cardinal Messias, Alessandrini was awarded the Mussolini Cups at the international film festivals in Venice (1938, 1939).
In 1935, Alessandrini was married to actress Anna Magnani , with whom he had a rather difficult relationship and their union was short-lived, but she starred in his film “Cavalry” (1936), and after a decade and a half and after their divorce in “Red shirts ”(1952, he didn’t finish the film and then it was still made by the then beginning director Francesco Rosi ).
In 1951 he returned to Egypt, where he made a film with the participation of Asi Noris "Amina" and soon left for Italy. At the end of his creative career, in the 60s he made several films in Argentina.
