Polyodontia ( lat. Polyodontia from Lat. Poly - many and Greek. Odus, odontos - tooth), hyperodontia, [1] hyperdentia ( lat. Hyperdentia from Lat. Hyper , lat. Dens, dentis - tooth) [2] , supradentia - anomaly in the number of teeth , expressed in the presence of supernumerary teeth [1] (in humans - more than 20 primary or 32 permanent teeth). It occurs in our time very often. In particular, in 2014 alone, cases of the removal of 80 [3] and even 232 [4] teeth were known (the previous record of the number of extracted teeth during such an operation was only 37).

The nature of polyodontics has not been fully elucidated, presumably it is associated with a violation of the mechanism for laying the tooth buds. Supernumerary teeth most often occur among the upper incisors, but can also occur among the lower incisors and in other areas of the dentition. The shape and size of such teeth may vary. Typically, these teeth are small in size and conical in shape. Supernumerary teeth can cause deformation of the dentition and in most cases must be removed.
As a rule, people with this anomaly are lisping .
There are two types of polyodontics.
- True polyiodontia is an excess of permanent teeth.
- False polyiodontia occurs due to a delay in the loss of milk teeth [1] .
