In the opening match between the national teams of England and Ireland, the victory with a crushing score of 6: 0 was won by the British, while their striker Fred Weldon , for whom this game was debut, made a hat-trick . Ireland rehabilitated in the next match against Wales . Losing after the first half 1: 3, the Irish eventually managed to win with a score of 4: 3. In the third round, the Welshmen took one point from the Scots who entered the competition, tied with them 2: 2. However, in the next game, Scotland won, defeating the Irish in the home stadium and temporarily leading the table. In the penultimate round, the English defeated the Scots, defeating the Wales team. In the final match, the British, who played at home against the Scots, needed only a draw to win the competition. England came forward already in the 19th minute, thanks to a goal by Steve Bloomer , but the strong Scottish team quickly scored the second goal.
