Born in the city of Tohat in 1558. In 1580 he became a priest, in 1589 he made a pilgrimage to Jerusalem . During the capture of Tohat during the uprising, Jalali in 1602 was captured. The rebels initially wanted to execute him, but then they beat him and left him to die [5] . Miraculously saved Stepanos fled to Constantinople , then to the Crimea (in 1603 to Kafu , from 1604 to Surkhat ), where he taught at the monastery of Surb Khach [6] [5] [7] . In 1621 he returned to Tohat, where he died around 1630.
He left a rich literary heritage, numerous poems of various genres - crying , satirical poems , panegyrics , ganza , etc. Many poems have important historical significance, they reflect political events in the Ottoman Empire, the situation of the Armenian people under the Turkish yoke, various aspects of the life of Armenians of Tokhat and Crimea [7] [2] [8] . Of the poems of Stepanos, it is worth noting “Crying to the great city of Evdokia ” ( Armenian “Ողբ ի վերա Եվդոկիա մեծի քաղաքին” ), which describes in detail the destruction of the once prosperous city, the satirical poem “Praise to the priests of Kafa” ( Armenian “Գովասաաիցւթիւննն վերա ” ), in which the author ridicules the vicious behavior of some Armenian priests of Theodosius, and the verse“ Complaint about fleas and flies ”( Armenian. Գանկատս ի լվաննուն և ճանճերուն ) devoted to social issues.
