Biography
He received a traditional Jewish education in a cheder . He studied medicine in Leningrad . From a young age he took part in the Zionist movement, one of the founders of the Zionist student movement in the USSR . At 21, he decided to quit his medical education in Leningrad in order to organize the Zionist movement in Ukraine . In 1927 he was expelled from the USSR , repatriated in the same year to Eretz Yisrael .
Having settled in Jerusalem , he worked for 12 years as a bricklayer. Since 1939 he headed the union of builders of Jerusalem. He led the plant for the production of building materials. He took part in the War of Independence of Israel . In the municipality of Jerusalem, he headed the engineering service [2] , served as deputy mayor (first on a voluntary basis, and later on a salary [3] ). He was part of the Israel National Insurance Institute . He was chairman of Magen David Hell and a branch of the Haganah organization in Jerusalem. For many years he was a trustee of the Hebrew University .
A street in Jerusalem is named after him.
