History

The village of Bavorov probably arose long before the founding of the Bavorovsky Castle around 1290 by the Zvik burggraph of Bavor III of Strakonitsy , who lived here until his death in 1318 . The first mention of the settlement dates back to 1228 . The Bavorov clan from Strakonitsy owned the Bavorsky papacy until 1351 , after which it was acquired by the pans from Rozmberk , the sons of Peter I from Rozmberk . In 1355, with the permission of King Karel I , the Rozmberkers erected a new Gelfenburk castle on the Maloshin hill to the west of the Bavorovsky castle, where the administrative center of the papacy moved, after which the old castle quickly became desolate. The Bavorovo panship became part of the Gelfenburksky papacy.

Under the Rozmberkers, the Bavors received privileges similar to those of royal cities. In 1359, the Rožmberki built a seven-bed hospital in Bavorov and a school for seven students. In 1381, the Rozhmberki granted Bavorov the right to have his own wax seal, and the residents of the city were guaranteed the broadest civil rights and freedoms, like the townspeople of Pisek . In exchange for this, Bavorov had to pay the Rozhmberk the same tribute as Pisek. In addition, the Rozhmberki gave Bavorov his coat of arms - a scarlet five-leaf rose on a silver heraldic shield - which is the coat of arms of the city to this day. In 1360 - 1384 a new parish church was erected in the city, at which a library was built.

After the death of Oldřich I of Rožmberk in 1390, his son and only heir, Jindrich III lost interest in the Gelfenburksky papacy and Bavorov, choosing another place as his residence. Jindrich confirmed the city privileges, but did not provide new ones. During the Hussite Wars, letters with city privileges for preservation from enemies and fire were walled up in the wall. However, they were completely destroyed by dampness. In 1474, representatives of the city government turned to lord Jindřich V of Rožmberk with a request to draw up and sign the city privileges again in writing, which was done. In this case, the city court was granted the additional right to pronounce death sentences.

In the years 1475 - 1503, the Gelfenburk papacy had other owners ( Jan from Schwamberk , pans from Chenov), who also confirmed the rights of the city of Bavorov, but then the pans returned to the Rozmberk. In 1552, Vlarges Vilém from Rožmberk obtained the right for the king for Bavorov to hold two annual large fairs (during the days of St. Lawrence and Martin) and weekly bread fairs. In addition, the city received the right to affix its seal on red wax. In the same year, Villem from Rozmberk established a shoemaker workshop in Bavorovo.

In 1593, Vladarg Petr Wok from Rožmberk sold the Gelfenburk Panski for 20,000 kopecks of Prague pennies to the Prachatice community , which in 1607 reaffirmed and expanded Bavorov’s city privileges. The city received the right to brew barley and wheat beer in a Pansky brewery. After the battle on the White Mountain in 1620, all prachatitskie possessions, including the Gelfenburkskoye Panamanian Empire, were confiscated and became part of the royal domain . All city privileges have been revoked. The following year, the Gelfenburk Panship was granted to Prince Eggenberg . Difficult times came for Bavorov: war , fires, epidemics, forced labor.

The city regained its privileges only in 1675 . The Eggenbergs additionally granted Bavorov the right to hold annual fairs on St. George's Day and on the Day of the Sacrifice of the Virgin Mary . In 1717, all the possessions of the Eggenbergs were inherited by the princely family of the Schwarzenbergs . On August 7, 1747, Queen Maria Theresa signed a document confirming the privileges of the city of Bavorov. The same was done by kings Joseph II ( 1782 ) and Franz I ( 1793 ).

After the revolutionary events of 1848-1849, Bavorov ’s city privileges were canceled, and the city itself became subordinate to the city of Vodnany , which significantly reduced its importance. In addition to everything, a big fire occurred in the city, destroying 14 houses, including a school and a princely court. In 1850, Bavorov was included in the Pisek Territory, and in 1853 received the official status of a city. On September 9, 1867, a new fire destroyed 31 houses in Bavorovo and damaged the church.

After World War II in 1945, the city was liberated by the US Army . In the post-war period, a unified agricultural cooperative ( Czech Jednotné zemědělské družstvo, JZD ) was organized in Bavorovo, drinking water wells were drilled and delivery was organized. In 1965 - 1972, a city pool was built. In the 1970s and 1980s, intensive housing construction was carried out in Bavorovo, a potato dryer and fire department were built, and a cultural center was erected. In 1983, the JZD Bavors merged with the JZD Helchice, as a result of which the JZD Mir Peace Helchice was established.

In 1991, Bavorov was admitted to the Czech Union of Cities and Municipalities, and in 2000, in accordance with the decision of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament, Bavorov's city status was officially fixed.
