Biography
Melissa Victoria Harris was born on October 2, 1973 in Seattle (Washington, USA) to the family of the first dean of African-American relations at the University of Virginia and a teacher at Diana Gray College, who works on her doctoral thesis when they met. Melissa grew up in Richmond , Virginia .
Melissa graduated from Wake Forest University with a bachelor's degree in English and a PhD in political science from Duke University . Harris also received an honorary doctorate from Meadville Lombard Theological School and studied theology at the United Theological Seminary in New York .
Career
Melissa worked for non-profit organizations that provided services such as kindergartens, health care for people in rural areas and access to reproductive services for poor women.
Personal life
In 1999–2005, Melissa was married to Dennis Lacewell. In this marriage, Harris-Perry gave birth to her first child, the daughter Parker Lacewell (born 2002).
On October 3, 2010, Melissa is married to James Perry for the second time. In this marriage, Harris had a second daughter (born February 14, 2014, as a surrogate mother) [1] .
