Bafanarii was a relative of the powerful military leader and regent Flavius Stilicho through marriage with his sister [1] .
He served as an African committee from at least 401 (on July 13 of this year he is mentioned by law from the Code of Theodosius [2] ) until 408. In that year, Stilicho was executed by the emperor Honorius , who also gave the order to kill Bafanarius and replace him with Heraclianus [1] .
Aurelius Augustine narrated the story he had heard from the bishop of the North of Milevsky. He once dined with Bafanarii and saw how the commite, using a magnet located under a silver dish, moved a piece of iron on it [3] .
