He accompanied Velker on his trip to Greece and Sicily and after that got a place at the Archaeological Institute in Rome. He added to the two volumes of the collection of Latin inscriptions published by Orelli the third volume (Zurich, 1856) and, together with Rossi and others, delivered for the "Corpus inscriptionum Latinarum" Momsen inscriptions of the city of Rome.
He also published Scavi nel basco dei fratelli Arvali (Rome, 1868) and Acta fratrum Arvalium (Berlin, 1874). Corresponding member of SPbAN from December 2, 1860 in the historical and philological department (category of classical philology and archeology).
