Trokhimenko, Karp Demyanovich

Karp Demyanovich Trokhimenko ( Ukrainian: Karpo Dem'yanovich Trokhimenko ; 1885 - 1979 ) - Ukrainian Soviet painter, illustrator. Teacher, historian of fine art, professor of historical battle painting (since 1939). People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1944).

Biography

Born October 13 (25), 1885 in the village of Sushchany (now Kagarlyksky district , Kiev region , Ukraine ). He studied from 1902 to 1910 (with interruptions) at the Kiev KHU under the direction of I.F. Seleznev , in 1906-1907 - at the Moscow School of Painting and Arts with N. A. Kasatkin , in 1910-1916 - at the Higher Art School at the Imperial Academy of Arts . Pupil N.S. Samokish .

In 1915, as part of the students of N. Samokish, under the guidance of a professor, he went to the Western , and then to the Black Sea and Caucasus fronts of the First World War to carry out sketches and sketches that were published in the magazines Lukomorye and Sun of Russia .

Member of the First World War. In 1916-1917, after graduating from the academy, he was on the Caucasus Front as an ordinary Life Guards. After returning to Kiev in 1918-1919 he taught drawing at the higher railway school in his native village. Sushchany (1920-1923), was the head of the labor school in Kagarlyk (1923-1925), taught at the labor school in Rzhishchev (1925-1926), was the head of the children's art studio. In 1926-1933, a teacher at the Kiev Industrial Professional School, later - Kiev Art College. Member of the Association of Artists of Red Ukraine .

The turning point in the artist’s creative life was the theme of Dneprostroy. In 1927, he visited construction, which impressed with his scale, mass and enthusiasm. Under the influence of what he saw, K. Trokhimenko drew a sketch "Construction", the canvases "Personnel of the Dnieper Construction", "Creators of the First Five-Year Plan". The artist himself, recalling the work on Dneprostroy, wrote: "I approached my task as a romantic" [1] .

In 1939, the artist created one of his best works - Shevchenko and Engelhardt. The picture concerns one of the tragic moments in the life of the great poet - the pan found him drawing and is going to punish [2] .

In 1933-1974 he was a teacher at the Kiev Art Institute (from 1938 - head of the department of composition and head of the workshop of battle and historical painting, from 1939 - professor).

In 1926-1931, a member of the Association of Artists of the Red Ukraine.

It belongs to the galaxy of Ukrainian realist artists of the older generation, such as F.G. Krichevsky , I.S. Izhakevich , I.N. Shulga , G.P. Svetlitsky , etc.

He died on October 1, 1979 . He was buried in Kiev at the Baykovsky cemetery .

The author of works on the history of Ukrainian and Russian fine arts, in particular, the study “Ukrainian Historical Painting” (1944), in the collection “Ukrainian Academy of Art. Research and scientific work ”(K., 1995), wrote the autobiographical book“ Romance of the Labor Feat ”(“ Art ”, 1979, No. 11), theoretical work“ Thoughts on a thematic picture ”(“ Fine Art ”, 1971, No. 1) .

  • A bronze bas-relief of the artist was installed on the house in Kiev where K. Trohimenko lived in 1985.
  • At the grave of the artist at the Baikovo cemetery a bust is installed.
  • In 1985, in honor of the 100th anniversary of the birth of K. Trohimenko, the USSR Post issued an artistic envelope.
