The first attempt at staging a Russian feature film (based on a play by A. Pushkin), carried out by the troupe of the Eden summer theater in St. Petersburg; was not completed due to the refusal of the artist E. Alashevsky to star in the role of Boris Godunov. It was on display in August 1907 under the title “A scene from the boyar life”; from 1909, it was called “Dmitry the Pretender” as an ordinary silent picture, but more often as film-advertisement.

In the summer of 1907 our company tried to start its own production of paintings. We shot the picture "Palochkin and Galochkin", but it was not released, as it was unsuccessful. The shooting was done in the Sokolnichesky Circle on the stage for the orchestra. The apparatus stood on the ground, and the characters — two comedians — were shot, in some places, without heads (their heads were cut off with a frame). In addition, there were other defects. Own production failed.
