History
There are several legends about the origin of the name Linovo.
In one of them it is reported that Count Lin lived in our area. He had two sons. They were well mannered. To be famous in the district, the count asked his sons to protect his surname. One of the sons married and left these places, the second married a rich young lady and at the same time changed his surname from Lin to Lin. From here the name of the village of Linovo would supposedly come, so old-timers say, but is this true? So, playing with words, we can get to the point that Lin comes from the locality of Lin, which is in Tibet and translates as a place of centenarians.
The second legend says that at the place where the village of Linovo is now, there was once a large pond. There were a lot of fish in this pond, especially Linev. This place was called a line and the village that arose on this place also received the same name. In our opinion, this is very plausible, because the village is located near the large swampy tract of Turos. Unfortunately, these lands are now drained and there is almost no trace of the former fish wealth.
Proceeding from the Belarusian language, we should add the existence of the word “Linevishcha” as a place for molting snakes, and this is interesting, because these chic bastards are found in such places.
At different times, the name of the village on maps and documents was written differently: Lineva, Linevo, Linovo, Linowa, Linowo, Linovo, Linava, Linovo. Currently, all official documents and maps are written in Linovo.
In 1987, the village of Linovo-2 merged with the village of Linovo and became one settlement.
Since 2009, instead of the village of Linovo, all documents spell the agro-town of Linovo (ag. Linovo).
