The second oldest state award in Slovakia, after the Order of the Double White Cross (however, the first in the sequence, intended exclusively for citizens of the Slovak Republic).
It bears the name of Andrei Glinka (1864-1938), a Slovak Catholic priest, leader of national revival and politician, who in Slovakia is called the father of the nation .
The order was established by Law No. 37/1994 of February 2, 1994 and was originally to be awarded until 2003 inclusive. Based on the Law of November 6, 2008 No. 552/2008, the Order of Andrey Glinka was reinstated in the current system of state awards of the republic.
The Order is awarded by the President of the Slovak Republic at the proposal of the Government of Slovakia. Prizes are awarded on the occasion of the anniversaries of the Slovak Republic.

Awarding grounds
The order is awarded to citizens of Slovakia for outstanding services in the creation of the Slovak Republic.
Each President of the Slovak Republic is a holder of the Order of Andrei Glinka of the first class.
