The average age of stars in the galaxy is estimated at 4 x 10⁷ - 1.5 x 10⁸ years. Presumably, in the center of the compass galaxy is a black hole with a mass of 4 x 10⁶ M ☉ [5] .
In 1995 or 1996, a supernova explosion occurred in the galaxy, designated SN 1996cr .
This star system was discovered in 1977.
