Early years

Aaron Mackey was born in Philadelphia ( Pennsylvania ), he studied at the Simon Graz Philadelphia School, where he played for the local basketball team. In 1990, she won the Philadelphia Public League Championship ( English Philadelphia Public League ), winning 26 wins with 4 losses, McKee also became her best player, gaining an average of 18.9 points per game, 9.9 rebounds and 7 , 2 assists [1] .

Student career

After graduation, McKee entered Temple University , where for three years he played for the team Temple Temple , where he spent a successful career, gaining 1,650 points, 586 rebounds, 301 transfers, 196 interceptions and 23 block shots as a result [2] . Under McKee Owles, the regular championship and Atlantic 10 conference tournament never won, but for three years in a row they went to the playoffs of the US student championship (1992-1994) [3] [4] [5] . NBA Career

He played the position of attacking defender , easy forward and point guard . In 1994 he was selected for the NBA draft under the 17th number by the Portland Trail Blazers team. He later played for the teams Detroit Pistons , Philadelphia 76 and Los Angeles Lakers . In total, the NBA spent 13 seasons. In 1993 he became the winner of the Robert Gizi Prize , and was also recognized as the basketball player of the year among the students of the Atlantic Conference 10 . A total of 793 games played in the NBA in a career, in which he scored 5871 points (an average of 7.4 per game), made 2587 rebounds , 2126 assists , 912 interceptions and 164 block shots [6] .

NBA Mackey spent his best years as a NBA player at the Seventy Sixers, in whose ranks he performed for eight seasons (1997–2005). The best season of his career was the 2000/2001 season , in which he played in 76 games, gaining an average of 11.6 points per game and making 4.1 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.4 interceptions and 0.1 block - the shot, for which, after the end of the championship, was recognized as the best sixth NBA player , becoming the second Philadelphia player after Bobby Jones in 1983 , winning the award in this nomination [6] .

In his best season, McKee made a triple double twice, and in two winning matches in a row: December 30, 2000 against Sacramento Kings (107–104) and January 3, 2001 against Atlanta Hawks (98–80) [7] . In addition, this season, the Seventy Sixers reached the NBA Finals , in which Los Angeles Lakers lost five games, while McKee played an important role in the playoffs of the tournament, acting as reservist Eric Snow and Allen Iverson , but sometimes going out and in the starting lineup.

On August 12, 2005, the leadership of Philadelphia refused to renew the contract with him in order to free up the payroll list of the team and reduce tax payments, taking into account the size of his salary and the age of the player. On August 26 of the same year, Mackey, as a free agent, signed a labor agreement with the Lakers, where he played two seasons, but in the new team he sat down in a deep supply, having played only 24 games in two years [6] . This state of affairs clearly did not suit him, so he decided to end the player’s career and try himself in the coaching field.

Coaching career

In the summer of 2007, Aaron Mackey officially announced the end of his professional career as a player, and in October of the same year he became an assistant to the head coach of the Philadelphia Sevents Sixers native team [8] .

On February 1, 2008, he tried to resume his playing career by signing an agreement with the Memphis Grizzlies team. Together with Kwame Brown and Javaris Crittenton, McKee was exchanged for the Lakers, the rights to it still belonged to Californians , in the Grizzlies for Pau Gasol , in addition the former team of Gasol signed an agreement with his younger brother Mark and won the right to choose in the first round in the NBA draft 2008 and 2010 [9] [10] .

Despite the fact that Aaron was bound by the current contract with Philadelphia, he decided to join Memphis and try his hand at the new team, but he didn’t have a single match in its composition until the end of the season, so on May 9 left her [11] . In September 2008, Mackey returned to his former position at the Covent Headquarters at Sevensixers, where he worked until 2013 [12] .

Legal issues

On June 22, 2008, Aaron Mackey was arrested and charged with a criminal offense of violating a court decision that he committed on April 8 of the same year. He was accused of trying to buy two pistols at the Abington gun shop, hiding a previous court verdict that prohibited him from acquiring firearms. When asked why he tried to acquire firearms in violation of a court order, he replied that he wanted to protect his child from sexual harassment by his intimate partner [13] .
