Biography

Born on November 7, 1919 in the village of Obrochnoye (now - the Atyurievsky district of Mordovia ) in a peasant family. Russian.

After graduating from high school, he worked as a teacher in the village of Kishaly, Atyuryevsky district. In 1939, Makhrov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . Member of the CPSU (b) since 1941. In 1941 he graduated from the Bobruisk Military Automotive School, in 1942 - advanced training courses for command personnel. Since June 1942 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He was wounded twice in battles [1] .

By October 1943, Lieutenant Alexei Makhrov commanded a tank company of the 181st Panzer Brigade ( 18th Panzer Corps , 5th Guards Tank Army , 2nd Ukrainian Front ). He distinguished himself during the liberation of the Dnepropetrovsk region of the Ukrainian SSR. In October 1943, Makhrov’s company took an active part in the battles for the liberation of the Zelenoye station and the Zelenyi Lug village of the Pyatikhat district . In battles on the outskirts of Krivoy Rog he knocked out 2 heavy tanks. In total, in those battles Makhrov with his crew destroyed 4 tanks, 3 self-propelled artillery pieces, 2 armored personnel carriers, several dozen enemy soldiers and officers, he himself was wounded, but continued to fight [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 10, 1944 for “courage and heroism shown in the battles to liberate the right-bank Ukraine”, Lieutenant Alexei Makhrov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .

After the war, Makhrov continued to serve in the Soviet army. In 1965, the rank of lieutenant colonel was sacked. He lived in Riga , worked as an engineer. He died on January 16, 1979 [1] . He was buried in Rainis cemetery .
