Biography

Born on February 23, 1921 in the village of Kudelka (now - the city of Asbest in the Sverdlovsk region ). After finishing seven classes of the school he worked as a locksmith. In 1940, Makhnev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since June 1943 - on the fronts of World War II [1] .

By November 1943, Sergeant Aleksey Makhnev was the gunner of the 1330th fighter anti-tank artillery regiment of the 3rd fighter anti-tank artillery brigade of the 33rd Army of the Western Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of the Vitebsk region of the Byelorussian SSR . On November 17, 1943, in the battles in the area of ​​the village of Koziany in the Dubrovensky district, he personally destroyed a large number of enemy soldiers and officers, holding his position, he was wounded himself, but continued to fight [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated March 29, 1944, Sergeant Alexei Makhnev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal [1] .

In June 1946, A. Makhnev was demobilized as a senior sergeant. He returned to Asbest, continued to work as a mechanic. He died on December 10, 1984 [1] .

He was also awarded a number of medals [1] .
