Biography
Maxim Makhanev was born on January 20, 1918 in the village of Pristen (now the Kursk Region ). After completing seven classes of school, he worked on the collective farm . In 1938, Makhanev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . He participated in the battles at Khalkhin Gol . Since July 1941 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War [1] .
By the autumn of 1943, senior sergeant Maxim Makhanev was an assistant platoon commander of the 705th rifle regiment of the 121st rifle division of the 30th rifle corps of the 60th Army of the Central Front . Distinguished during the battle for the Dnieper . As part of his platoon, Makhanev twice successfully crossed the Dnieper near the village of Yasnogorodka and the Glebovka wharf, after which he took an active part in seizing bridgeheads on the west bank of the river. Only in one of the battles, a platoon of Makhanev captured three houses, destroying 13 and taking 2 more enemy soldiers as prisoner [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 17, 1943, for "showing dedication, initiative and perseverance in battles, for skillful command of a platoon and for ensuring the implementation of combat orders in difficult conditions when crossing the Dnieper River and seizing a bridgehead on the right bank" senior sergeant Maxim Makhanev He was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal No. 2793 [1] .
In 1945, Makhanev graduated from the Saratov Tank School. In 1946, in the rank of lieutenant, he was dismissed. He lived and worked in the city of Nikopol, Dnepropetrovsk region, Ukrainian SSR . He died on June 22, 1987, was buried in Nikopol [1] .
He was also awarded the Order of the Red Banner and a number of medals [1] .
