Biography
Jacob Matveev was born on December 27, 1912 in the village of Kuznetsovka (now the Vyazemsky District of the Smolensk Region ). After graduating from four classes of school he worked as a shepherd. Since 1927 he lived in Moscow , graduated from a seven-year school and a factory apprenticeship school , after which he worked at a printing plant. In 1932, Matveyev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1935 he graduated from the Yeisk Naval Aviation School. During the Great Patriotic War, he served in the air force of the Pacific Fleet [1] .
He participated in the battles of the Soviet-Japanese war, being an assistant in flight training for the commander of the 37th assault air regiment of the 12th assault air division of the Air Force of the Pacific Fleet. Under his leadership, the regiment launched sorties to bomb Japanese transport ships in the port of Yuki (now Ungi , North Korea ) [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of September 14, 1945, Captain Yakov Matveyev was awarded the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star Medal " No. 7150 [1] .
After the end of the war, Matveyev continued his service in the Soviet Army. In 1952 he graduated from the Naval Academy . In 1969, in the rank of Major General Matveyev was dismissed. He lived in St. Petersburg .
He died on August 25, 2001, and was buried at Pushkin Kazan Cemetery [1] .
Freeman Vyazma. He was also awarded two Orders of the Red Banner , the Order of the Patriotic War , 1st degree, two Orders of the Red Star , and a number of medals [1] .
