Biography

He was born on June 29, 1916 in the village of Bolshaya Kamenka of the Samara district of the Samara province (later the Elkhovsky district of the Kuibyshev region, now the Krasnoyarsk district of the Samara region) in a large family (four girls and three boys).

He graduated from the 4th grade of school. From childhood, Vasily helped his parents with the housework and from the age of 13 began working on the collective farm at various jobs. From 1934 to 1937 he worked as a tractor driver. In 1938 he graduated from the school of mechanization in the city of Stavropol-on-Volga, Kuibyshev region (now Togliatti, Samara region), received a specialty as a combiner . He entered the Bolsherakovskaya MTS and worked there until being drafted into the Red Army in 1939 . [one]

He served in Mongolia as a driver. Member of the fighting on Lake Hassan . Some of them were not transferred to the Western Front due to the threat of attack from Japan. But at the beginning of 1943, Svyatkin from the Far East was sent to the Kalinin Front , went with battles to Poland . In 1943, he participated in the transfer of American military equipment along the Georgian Military Highway from Iran to the Western Front. He served in artillery units, in parts for servicing aircraft. After the war, he continued to serve in Poland and was discharged in August 1946 .

He returned to his homeland, went to work at the Rakovskaya MTS as a combine operator, then became a team leader. In 1946, he married Maria Dmitrievna Dorogoychenkova, in the family they had seven children.

In 1972, for health reasons, he moved to work as a machinist at the mill.

He died on May 27, 1998 at the 82nd year of life. He was buried in the cemetery of the village of Bolshaya Kamenka.

Rewards

  • By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 19, 1967, V.I. Svyatkin was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor for the repeated high labor indicators with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Hammer and Sickle Medal.
  • He was also awarded other orders and medals.

Memory

  • Every year, a volleyball tournament is held in the region among young men of neighboring volosts for the cup of the Hero of Socialist Labor V. I. Svyatkin.
