Municipal Museums Council Council of Barcelona Network

The Council of Barcelona’s Council Municipal Museums Network ( cat. Xarxa de Museus Locals de la Diputació de Barcelona ), also known as the Largest Museum of Catalonia, is a tool for supporting and developing the cooperation of the museums of the province of Barcelona , and also provides them directly as equipment and services professionals, and any other assistance in the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage. The network of the Municipal Museums is managed by the Department of Cultural Heritage, which, in turn, is subordinate to the Culture Sector of the Council of the Province of Barcelona.

The network of Municipal Museums was created in 2001 during the activities of the Commission on Cooperation of Municipal Museums, established in 1988 after the First Conference of Museums and Local Administration. Initially, the Commission included the municipal museums of Hospitalet, Granollers, Mataro and Gava, as well as museums that are under the direct control of the Provincial Council.

The main goal of the Municipal Museums Network is to organize joint work to create a model of a diversified, dynamically developing museum that would be in direct connection with people's lives, be an accessible cultural center, a tool for building identity and preserving the cultural memory of the local population, as well as space for learning, socialization and leisure.

At the time of the formation of the Municipal Museum Network in 2001, it included 37 museums located in 29 municipalities. In July 2010, the Municipal Museum Network signed an agreement with the Spanish National Organization of the Blind (ONCE), which aims to improve access to museums for people with visual impairments.

By 2013, the network covers 65 museums of 52 two municipalities [1]
