The song was welcomed by most critics who noted Kylie’s transition from dance music to R&B . Commercially, the song did not succeed like previous Minogue singles, appearing on the charts of Australia , Germany and the UK . As part of the promotional campaign, a music video was released showing Minogue entering a spaceship and undressing in zero gravity. The video received positive reviews from music critics.

The song was performed on most Minogue tours, including the Intimate and Live Tour , On a Night Like This Tour , KylieFever2002, and Showgirl: The Greatest Hits Tour . The composition also appeared on many Kylie compilations.

Critic Reviews

Put Yourself in My Place has received positive reviews from most music critics. Jason Schoen with About.com in his Ultimate Kylie review highlighted Deconstruction's greatest hits. [1] Hunter Falt with PopMatters described the song as “ trip hop [song]” and said that “Kylie sings the story is very believable.” [2]

Commercial Success

The song did not repeat the success of the lead single from the album " Confide in Me ". In Britain, Put Yourself in My Place debuted at number 17 on November 26, 1994, peaking at number 11 the following week. In the rest of Europe, the single did not appear on the charts except Germany, where the song peaked at number 87. In Australia, the single also debuted from position 17 on December 11, 1994. The single spent eleven weeks in the top 50 and peaked at number 11, just like In Great Britain.

Music video

The video for the song was shot by Cyrus MacFarlane. In it, Minogue recreated the opening scene from the movie Jane Fonda Barbarella . In 1995, the video won the Best Australian Video Award at the ARIA Music Awards.

There are slightly different versions of the music video, with different and more sex scenes than others. Some of them also used other versions of the song, for example, landscape and radio versions.
