Since 1904, L. A. Charskaya begins to write a series of books of historical and biographical genre. Among them are “The Page of Tsesarevna”, “So the Tsaritsa Bade”, “The Desired Tsar”, “The Tsar's Wrath” and in 1905 the “Brave Life”.

The act of Nadezhda Durova in the XIX century , and almost a century later, while writing a book, touches such serious problems of society as equality of men and women in the defense of the Motherland, patriotism and love for the Motherland.

The story “A Bold Life”, like other works by L. A. Charskaya, is made in the sentimental style of historical and biographical prose.

Book Plot

The book is set against the historical background of the Patriotic War of 1812 . The daughter of a hussar captain, Nadezhda Durova, driven by patriotic feelings, flees from the parental home, where she is considered a savage and does not like, following the regiment in a Cossack dress.

After a few years of successful military career in cavalry, her relatives will learn about the fate of Hope. The "cavalry-girl" is reported to Emperor Alexander I. In St. Petersburg , where Hope is delivered under escort, an audience with the emperor passes. She showered with favors and assign a male name in honor of the sovereign - Alexander Andreevich Alexandrov. Under this name, a woman is promoted to the rank of captain-captain , participates in the battle of Borodino , receives the Cross of St. George and retires. Ends his heroic life in Elabuga .
