Biography
Alexander Fukovsky was born on October 1, 1920 in the village of Zarubintsy (now the Monastyryshchensky district of the Cherkasy region of Ukraine ). After finishing ten grades of the school, he worked as an accountant in the city of Osh, the Kyrgyz SSR . In 1939, Fukovsky was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1942 he graduated from the Moscow machine-gun and mortar school. By September 1943, the Guard Lieutenant Alexander Fukovsky commanded a mortar company of the 24th Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 7th Guards Mechanized Corps of the 60th Army of the Central Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper [1] .
On September 25, 1943, Fukovsky’s company was one of the first to cross the Dnieper in the vicinity of the village of Domantovo, the Chernobyl district of the Kiev region of the Ukrainian SSR and took an active part in the battles for the capture and retention of the bridgehead on its western shore, repelling a large number of German counterattacks [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 17, 1943 for “courage and heroism shown in the struggle against the German invaders,” the guard Lieutenant Alexander Fukovsky was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 1226 [1 ] .
After the war, Fukovsky continued to serve in the Soviet Army. In 1947, he graduated from the Military Academy of Armored and Mechanized Forces. In 1976, with the rank of colonel, Fukovsky was sacked. He lived and worked in Moscow . He died on May 2, 1997, was buried at the Troekurovsky cemetery in Moscow [1] .
He was also awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, two orders of the Red Star , the Order "For Service to the Homeland in the Armed Forces of the USSR" of the 3rd degree and a number of medals [1] .
