The 21st Virginia Infantry Regiment is the infantry regiment of the Confederate Army recruited in Virginia during the US Civil War . He fought almost exclusively as part of the North Virginia Army .

The 21st Virginia was formed in June and admitted to the Confederate Army in July 1861 about Fredericksburg. His companies were recruited in the districts of Charlotte, Mecklenburg, Cumberland and Buckingham. Company "B" consisted of Maryland and became known as the "Maryland Guard". The first commander of the regiment was Colonel William Gilham.
The regiment participated in the battle of Cheat Mountain in September 1861, and in January 1862 was involved in an expedition to Romney .
The regiment participated in the campaign in the Shenandoah Valley, then was included in the brigades of Jones and William Terry.
