Biography
Rozhash was born in Budapest. Since 1940 he worked in small positions - assistant administrator, clerk in the notary public, secretary.
In 1944 he was captured by the Red Army . It was charged against him that he had voluntarily fought against the Soviet Union as a rookie in the Hungarian army. Nine years, from 1944 to 1953, Rozhash was in Soviet camps. In the Ekibastuz camp, he met and made friends with the future Nobel laureate Alexander Solzhenitsyn , with whom he spent three years together [2] .
In 1962 he was rehabilitated by the Supreme Court of the USSR . Returning to Hungary, in the second half of the 1970s in the 1980s, Rožas wrote several books and articles about the Gulag. Zoltán Szalkai ( Hungarian. Zoltán Szalkai ), a Hungarian director, made a film about Janos Rožas and Györd Zoltán Bien ( Hungarian. Bien György Zoltán ), who were prisoners of the Gulag. In August 2001, he received the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary . In 2003, the Hungarian Academy of Arts awarded him a gold medal for his memoirs, in the same year he was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of the Zala County [3] .
Rozhash died on November 2, 2012, at the age of 86, in Nagykanizhe .
