History

In 1994, a priest, priest Vladimir (Novikov), who became rector of the Orthodox parish, arrived from Arkhangelsk to Naryan-Mar . A store building was allocated for the parish on Hatanheyskogo Street, 9. For several years services were held there, but the building could not accommodate all the believers. Father Vladimir, with the support of parishioners, obtained permission to build an Orthodox church in Naryan-Mar. The head of the administration of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug Vladimir Butov approved the idea of construction and became one of the main sponsors of this project. The architectural project was developed by a group of specialists led by the Penza architect Dmitry Borunov.

In 1997, for the construction of the temple, a public regional charitable Orthodox Foundation named after John of Kronstadt was created On July 18, 1997, a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the John Kronstadt Foundation was held. The director of the fund was elected Sergey Ivanchenko. The meeting was attended by the deputy of the State Duma from the NAO A. N. Chilingarov . A bank account was opened for donations for the construction of the temple

For the construction of the Temple, the former Kalyush microdistrict in the city center was chosen. Earlier there was a house of worship, donated by the mistress T. G. Prosvirnina to the Orthodox community of the city. By that time, the old houses of Kalyush were demolished and in their place a large free area was formed.

The construction of the temple began with a citywide community work day, July 19, 1997. Then OJSC Naryan-Marstroy erected the basement of the building.

The felling and assembly of the temple took place on the territory of one of the military units. Carpenters from the Penza region were engaged in cutting. By the end of 1998, the log house of the church was cut down to a spire.

Since April 2000, in the lower aisle of the Temple began to conduct services. He was consecrated and dedicated to the Monk Zosima , Savvaty and German Solovetsky .

In 2003, the Epiphany Church was closed with the participation of the district administration and was actually sold to Naryan-Marseysmorazvedka OJSC [4] , however, after the intervention of the hierarchy, it was returned to the Church.

On October 16, 2005 the Epiphany Church was consecrated by Bishop Tikhon of Arkhangelsk and Kholmogorsky [5] .

In 2005, the Sunday School building [6] [7] was built near the Epiphany Temple, which later housed the Naryan-Mar diocese .

In 2006, a wooden bell tower 18.3 meters high was built near the church. It has 10 new bronze bells. The largest Evangelist weighs 830 kg, the smallest - 5 kg. A set of 10-pack campaigns was cast in Voronezh by order of Lukoil-North. For the first time, a bell chime was announced by Naryan-Mar on April 16, 2006 [8] .

With the establishment of the Naryan-Mar diocese, it became its cathedral.

In the summer of 2012, work began on the restoration of the lower church in the name of the Solovetsky reverends [9] .

On November 7, 2013, Bishop Naryan-Mar and Mezen of Jacob made the great consecration of the lower aisle of the Epiphany Cathedral in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary [10] .

Architecture

The cathedral complex is an example of stylization of the wooden architecture of the Russian North of the 17th — 18th centuries.

The temple is cross-shaped in plan, cut down from the Siberian cedar according to the canons of wooden northern architecture on a concrete foundation [11] .

A two-tier octagon , chopped "in the cloud" with a high hipped finish and four small cuts under the wedge-shaped roof .

The hipped bell tower of the temple was built on the type of " octagon on the four ", chopped "in the cloud."

A track stele [12] and a worship cross [13] were installed on the territory of the temple.

Monument to Ivan III

A cathedral was installed at the altar apse of the cathedral, and on September 6, 2016, a monument to Ivan III - the founder of Pustozersk (a copy of the figure of Ivan III on the monument to the Millennium of Russia ) was unveiled [14] [15] . In 2014, the toponymic commission of the Naryan-Mar administration rejected the proposal of the Naryan-Mar diocese to erect this monument in the city [16]
