History

Makaryevsky district was formed in 1929 as part of the Kotelnichesky okrug of the Nizhny Novgorod Territory from Spasskaya, Troitskaya and part of the Khalturinsky volost of Kotelnichesky district . On July 30, 1930, in connection with the liquidation of the district system in the USSR, the Makaryevsky district became directly subordinate to the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

In July 1931, the Makaryevsky district was abolished, and its territory was divided between the Kotelnichsky and Darovsky regions.

January 23, 1935 Makaryevsky district was restored as part of the Kirov region (since 1936 - the region).

On June 4, 1956, the Makaryevsky district was abolished, and its territory was divided between the Kotelnichsky and Darovsky regions.
