History
The first name - Korolevskaya - was given (1867) by the name of one of the richest inhabitants of Tomsk - Evgraf Korolyov , who had his own inn here. In general, the street had a trade and craft character.
New story
The modern name in honor of the Russian Soviet writer Maxim Gorky received June 25, 1929. Gorky was familiar with Tomsk writers and corresponded with them, at his suggestion in Tomsk, the editorial team - G. A. Vyatkin , V. Ya. Shishkov , V. I. Anuchin [1] , I. G. Goldberg and others. - he was preparing for the publication “Siberian Collection” (1912, in the series of books “Knowledge” 1900-1913), the collection could not be published.

With the establishment of Soviet power in Tomsk, Khamitov’s house was nationalized, an orphanage was opened in it. After the recognition of Khamitov’s house as an architectural monument, he was taken by the Tatar Culture Center [2] .
